3 under-trial prisoners escape from district jail

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: In a shocking incident three dreaded criminals escaped from district jail, Jully near here early this morning.

The escapees Mazibur Rahman, Budh Ram Nayak and Farook Islam are serving jail term since last several years. While Rahman is the alleged murderer of two sisters at Akashdeep market in the year 2008, Nayak is also charged with murder case under section 302/34 IPC of Banderdewa police station.

Md Farook Islam is facing theft charges and a case was registered against him at Itanagar Police Station under section 379/ IPC.

The trio fled the jail breaking the bathroom ceiling which was fitted with CGI sheet by taking advantage of heavy rain in the wee hours of Saturday, the officials of Jully district jail informed.

They used blanket, mosquito net, crepe bandage and one 3X2 timber log as tools to escape from the jail.  

The incident came to light during the routing checking conducted by the authorities at 6 am. According to night guard, Nayak was seen drinking water near in his cell at around 12.30 am. It is worth mentioning here that all the three inmates were lodged in cell number 3 of the jail.

The incident has sent a shockwave among police and jail authorities.

An FIR has been lodged in this regard at Itanagar police station and a departmental enquiry launched by the jail authorities.

Capital police officials along with ADM Talo Potom visited district jail today and has started a magisterial investigation into the jail breaking case.

Admitting security lapse in the jail, the jail authorities, however, stated that action will be taken against erring officials as per the findings of the departmental enquiry report.

The incident took place just a day after alleged twin murderer Mazibur Rahman was produced before the district and session court as part of the trial.

The Jully jail is well protected by a compound wall of 18 ft high. There are altogether 70 prisoners including both male and female inmates in the jail. More than 100 personnel, including jawans and officers, are presently engaged to guard the jail.

It was also informed that all the three criminals, who escaped from the jail, are from neighbouring Assam.  While Mazibur Rahman hails from Gohaidoloni village under North Lakhimpur district Md Farook Islam is a resident of Mornoi Graging village of the same district. Budh Ram Nayak is a native of Dariya Dhipa, Harmuty under Laluk police station, North Lakhimpur district.

Meanwhile Assam police has been alerted about the incident as all the criminals belong to Assam.

 

 

Adopt better policies for improved service: Sonam

Transport Federation meet

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: INTUC, North East Convenor Jalley Sonam today called upon the members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) to formulate effective policies for better transportation system in the state.

Addressing the general body meeting of Federation at Naharlagun today,  Sonam said,  Federation members should make every effort  to  improve the transportation system  and imbibe a sense of discipline among its members to deliver better service.

While referring to experiences gained during his recent visit to Japan, Sonam  further  said “we can not emulate the better policies/ideas adopted by Japan in a day, but we can adopt certain policies and  guidelines  to deliver better service to the  public.” He particularly cited the public transportation system, the traffic rules and other traffic related policies adopted by Japan. While briefing about the importance of Trade Union, he advised the AAPPTF members to be better equipped with the Trade Union bye-laws of the country before carrying out any activities so that the work and activities can be accomplished without any obstruction.

He also called upon the APPTF members to give proper guidance to unemployed youths of the state and advised them to carry out their public services with free and fair manner.

He further suggested the  federation members to coordinate with national level trade organization and attend national level trade and labour leadership training  programme to exchange ideas and gain knowledge.

Stressing on awareness campaign against the prevailing fine system during accident, he called upon the  Federation to initiate movement against the prevailing fine system.

AAPPTF Secretary General Dobing Sonam highlighted the activities of AAPPTF and informed that  the federation conducted various traffic related awareness programme in different parts of the state in recent past.

He further, advising the members said “we being a public service provider, should maintain discipline particularly while dealing with passengers.

He appreciated Jalley Sonam for his cooperation and encouragement and suggestions to APPTF members.

AAPPTF President Takar Goi called upon the AAPPTF members to work selflessly for upliftment of the Federation. He also briefed about the grievances being faced by drivers and owners of commercial vehicle of the state.

Working President Tadar Raja, Vice President (Pro) Kamku Pardung and Vice President (Adm) Kipa Nib also spoke on the inaugural session and advised the AAPPTF district units to work dedicatedly.

Later, in the discussion session, district executive members of all districts of the state who attended the meeting highlighted their grievances.

Meanwhile, the house unanimously adopted a resolution stating that the central executive members for the next AAPPTF executive bodies would be held on selection basis instead of election and also fixed the venue for next general conference of AAPPTF at Aalo in November next.

The house further expressing their displeasure over the hire of vehicles from other state by corporate sectors/ construction agencies working in the state by depriving the local people unanimously decided to check and restrict hire of vehicles from other state and accordingly AAPPTF central executive body has entrusted district AAPPTF units to ensure hiring of vehicles from AAPPTF members only.

The house also resolved that local Taxi should be used by tourist for sightseeing.

Meanwhile, taking serious note over the dilapidated Balipara to Tawang Bomdila road, AAPPTF decided to call Tawang and West Kameng bandh on September 2.

It said, a peace rally was organized recently and a memorandum  was also submitted demanding the BRO officials to complete the road from Jung, Rama camp to Tawang within 20 days. BRO officials assured early completion and systematic earth cutting, but  they fail to fulfill their assurance.

It is worth mentioning here  that public transport providers, public and tourists are facing problems due to unsystematic road cutting from Bhalukpong to Tawang.

 

 

NGOs come together for a common platform

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: The NGO’s coordination meeting held at Naharlagun today focused on creating a common platform for all the registered voluntary organizations in the state as well as establishing a strong network among different NGOs to share knowledge, experiences to address the common issues and challenges while working for the upliftment of the poor in the state.

During the first session of the meeting, Nangbia Amar Dui, Chairman NNCS, Sagalee highlighted in brief the idea, importance and the need for formation of Arunachal Pradesh NGO Network for greater interest of community members in living remote rural areas.

Tamchi Niania, Chairman, RDHS, Sungram stressed the need for a common platform, where all the NGO’s working in different fields can come together and work for the common purpose.

R K Paul Chawang, Secretary, AMYAA, Roing spoke on the primary need of establishing a mutual trust of confidence among the Government, NGOs and Donors. Joram Mepung, Secretary, Mecha Welfare Society (MWS), Yachuli briefed on Indian People’s Alliance for combating HIV/AIDS (IPACHA). She stressed on the importance of becoming members of National NGO like IPACHA even while working at grassroots level. She said  this would enrich and improve the working pattern, capacitate and strengthen the state level NGOs who are in need of direction and focus.

Members from various NGOs attending meeting also shared their opinions, views and working experiences and emphasized on the need of coordination among various NGOs, especially to overcome major challenges that hinder the NGOs in its proper functioning.

Respecting the common views of the members, the meeting constituted a mobilizing committee with members from various NGOs, including  AMYAA, NDF, NNCS, AFT and MWS.

The members unanimously agreed upon to work together under the banner Arunachal Pradesh Ngo Network (Apngon). The members further resolved to commit themselves as NGO representatives in addressing the common issues of the poor, working in various fields and areas within the state.

The meeting was initiated by the NN Charitable Society (NNCS), Rural Development and Heritage Society (RDHS), Alombro Mayu Yaku Chi Amey Aroga (AMYAA), and Mecha Welfare Society (MWS) and attended by 25 NGOs from 6 districts.

 

 

Computer Aided Design centre for weaver and artisans

Naharlagun, Aug 25:  Information Technology based Computer Aided Design (CAD) Centre for creative design and development by artisans and weavers of Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated at Industrial Estate, Naharlagun today. Technical support to the GoI sponsored project would be provided by Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC), Kolkata in association with State Textile & Handicrafts department.

The artisans and weavers will be educated on the State-of-the Art IT–based tools and technologies through the centre by master trainers so that they are e-enabled to respond to fast changing global demands and practices. The infrastructure, to train the Master Trainers will be developed (under the Guidance of Local Government) at district Head Quarter, directly by the CDAC Experts.

The C-DAC will deploy 25 master trainers as their first batch for the period of 6 months vocational training.

Attending the inaugural programme, Indra Malo Jain, Secretary Textile & Handicraft said that this is a skilled based project which demands complete dedication and commitments of trainees. The trainees should keep in mind they use materials and products which should be market and user friendly to help weavers remunerate prices. It will also empower the local artisans and weavers to developed their skills and creativity which will not only develop the local arts but also economy of the state. C-DAC with their knowledge will strengthen them with new technology and machines which will faster their production.

Assuring and support from the department, she hoped that the training would help the Arunachalee’s handloom and handicrafts to enter the world market by having its own ‘brand name’ in future.

Tapang Taloh, Minister for Textile & Handicrafts said the centre would enable the local artisans to create innovations IT- based fabric design that will upgrade the skill of weavers, artisans with state-of-the art IT based tools and techniques. The CAD centre is intended at developing the traditional handlooms and handicrafts industries in the State.  The Minister further requested the officers, staff and trainees to take full advantage of the training programme for improving quality of products, improvement of design with innovative ideas as the department of Textile, Handloom& Handicrafts is one of the important department which can give alternative life to the upcoming unemployment youth of the State.

Earlier, D. Bhaduri chief co-ordinator C-DAC, while giving detail insight of the programme, said C-DAC was especially formulated across the various North Eastern States since these regions do not have big industries and factories. Therefore, CDAC will provide technical guidance to the local artisans and weavers providing numerous benefits in their productions. It is a development of high end resource centre for creating innovative design by training the master trainer for existing local weaver community of weavers/ artisans/ SHGs with modern IT based tools and by developing techniques, adopting simple methods which would reduce time and financial implications during the creation off design and deployment for production with the help of computer and simple user friendly software solutions to ease the process for easy deployment to meet the local and global need by using ICT and IT tools.

He further informed that they are not looking for educationally qualified trainees but local designers who are keen in their designs and creations and people who are associated with the designing industry. He appealed all the participants to be supportive, willing and be present in the class to make the training programme successful. DIPR

 

 

Pre-Solung celebrated at Changlang

Changlang, Aug 25: The Adi community residing in the district headquarters of Changlang celebrated Pre-Solung here with in pomp and gaiety.

Joining the celebration Changlang (N) ZPM Marina Kenglang appealed all the Adi community to preserve their rich culture and traditions and urged the gathering to maintain universal brotherhood amongst all the communities.

Changlang Bazaar Committee president N K Longchang appreciated the rich cultural display and ensured the community for safety and security in Changlang.

Changlang deputy commissioner Opak Gao said that the celebration of festivals are the best platform for developing healthy social relationship as well as the forum for maintaining communal harmony amongst all tribes of the state.

District Agriculture Officer A D Pangam and DDSE Nolom Yirang also spoke on the occasion.

Bhutia assures help to APFPA

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Renowned footballer Baichung Bhutia, who also is president of  Football Players Association of India (FPAI) has assured to help Arunachal Pradesh Football Players Association (APFPA) in getting affiliation with FPAI.

Bhutia gave this assurance to APFPA general secretary Kipa Ajay during a discussion at New Delhi on August 23.

Earlier on August 22, Arunachal Pradesh Football Association general secretary G Doke accompanied by Ajay attended the special general body meeting of All India Football Federation (AIFF) in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Doke said that the Tadar Tang Memorial Football Tournament had to be postponed mainly, due to some financial problem and the ensuing Solung festival as well. He appealed to all the teams and players to bear with the inconvenience caused to them due to postponement of the tournament. He further informed that APFA would prepare a football calender by the end of this year for smooth conduct of various football tournaments in the state. As per new schedule, the Tadar Tang Memorial Football Tournament would be held from September 22. The APFA general secretary has urged all the district team to participate in the Govt sponsored tournament for development of football in the state.

AR nabs drug peddlers

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Assam Rifles (AR) nabbed a drugs peddlers and recovered one kg of opium worth Rs.30,000 in Tirap today.

Assam Rifles personnel apprehended the drugs peddler along Rukhet of Lazu during a checking drive at Thincha-Sanlima mobile check post laid by them.

Apprehension of the individual has not only dented the morale of the drug peddlers but also gave a major blow to the drug trafficking racket in Lazu and Khonsa, according to an Army release.

 

Forum demands suspension of EE

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Upper Yachuli People’s Forum (UYPF) in a  letter to the Chief Minister has demanded suspension of Yazali PWD division EE for his alleged involvement in misappropriation of crore of rupees meant for the construction of rural road from 20 km BRTF via Loth to Chambang ( 40 km under phase-I).

Demanding high-level enquiry into the misappropriation of  fund and physical verification  of the  implementation of the road project, the  Forum said that genuine contractors were deprived  of while  payment were made to ‘non-contractors’ of the road.

The Forum further said that the officer is not attending his office for the last five months. Despite  an order issued by the Lower Subansiri DC  asking the EE to assume his duty, he is not attending office till date, the Forum claimed.

 

Excellence award for  Principal

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: The principal of Ziro Frontier School M B Bista has been conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Education Excellence Award and Certificate of Education Excellence by Indian Solidarity Council in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of education.

Bista received the award at a function in New Delhi recently.

 

‘Arrest the assaulter’

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: The LPG distributors of Capital Complex and Bazaar Welfare Committee Doimukh (BWCD) in a joint memorandum to the Papum Pare SP appealed him to arrest one Karling Dodum for allegedly physically assaulting assistant manager of Papum Pare Gas Agency, Doimukh on  August 7.

Expressing resentment over assault on a person in front of the public and the delay in arresting the alleged accused despite an FIR  lodged in Doimukh Police station,   the memorandum urged the  SP take steps  for immediate arrest of the assaulter.

 

Anti-dug rally at Lohit

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: An anti-drugs (Opium) rally was organized by Lohit district unit Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) to create awareness among the masses about harmful effects of drugs abuse.

The AdiSU unit in a release, said that drugs, especially opium addiction has become a major concern not only for Lohit and some other eastern districts but also for the entire state. It appealed to all, especially youths to desist themselves from taking opium.

 

Road link restored

SEPPA, Aug 25:   The heavy road blockade on Seppa (East Kameng) to Tezpur road was cleared successfully today. The landslide and flash flood triggered by heavy  rain had snapped road link since Thursday.

The restoration brings a huge sigh of relief to passengers as well as drivers who were stranded at Palizi and Ramda following the heavy road blockade at Bana in East Kameng and Palizi and Ramda in West Kameng.

East Kameng deputy commissioner Tope Bam informed this daily that he directed the highway division to clear the road blockade soon after he received the report of road blockade.

Sources informed that as many as fifty vehicles both private and government stranded at block points and commercial vehicles plying from Seppa had to cancel their service due to road blockade.

 

Toppers felicitated

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Anjaw District Students’ Union (ADSU) has felicitated the toppers in the CBSE Class X and XII examinations of Govt higher Secondary School, Hayuliang on August 21.

Nine students were felicitated on the occasion, who included Atosha Bellai, Class X (6.8 CGPA), Shanti Mai (6.0 CGPA), Hussan Yun, Class XII (68.4%), Genlum Tawsik, Class XII (65%) of GHSS, Hayuliang, Binakso Hallai, Class X (70.8%), Matyup Tamblung, Class XII (66%), Adio Lap, Class X (6.2 CGP), Sahib Romat, Class X (5.8CGPA), Palengso Kri, Class X (5.8 CGPA) of GHSS, Hawai.

ADSU also visited various schools of the districts to take stock of the functioning of those schools. The team visited Govt Middle School Yatong, Quibiang, Kherang, Lautul and Govt Hr. Sec. School, Hawai on August 22 and 23. They discussed various issues pertaining to school development,  where all the school in-charge concerned expressed their grievances like shortage of teachers, infrastructure and non-release of students’ stipend.

Taking note of the situation, ADSU urged the Education Department and the authority concerned to redress the grievances of those school for the betterment of the students.
